Membership
Services
Here is a
general survey of the SBHAQ's mandate
and of the services it offers to its members:
- Support
and encourage research into the causes of spina
bifida, in order to help improve treatment and prevention
methods.
- Disseminate
information relating to spina bifida and hydrocephalus in its publication
The Spinnaker. Organise information sessions
that educate the public and train individuals in coping mechanisms,
produce educational material, promotional tours and awareness programs
throughout Quebec.
- Monitor
the development of services that will adequately respond to the needs
of people with spina bifida and
their families.
- Provide
consultation and referral services.
- Raise
awareness in the population of spina bifida
and preventive measures.
- Assume
a leadership role and co-ordinate activities and information with regional
associations in order to pool ideas and experience throughout Quebec.
- Prepare
and supervise the dissemination of publicity for the various media,
in order to ensure that the message of the association be uniform and
in accordance with already established policies.
- Assume
a political role with government authorities and other decision-making
powers on all questions concerning the social integration of people
with spina bifida.
- Provide
support to regional associations by offering expertise and tools that
will help them plan, organise and promote their concerns and messages,
etc.
The SBHAQ
places major emphasis on partnership and mutual consulting with other
organisations in the areas of community, public or parapublic advocacy
groups, in order to improve the services that will adequately respond
to the needs of people with spina bifida.
We actively
collaborate with the following organisations on advocacies they share
with us: education, social and school integration, integration in daycare,
